We begin with a visit to the “G. Cortesi” geological museum in Castell’Arquato where we will learn about the geology and, hence, the palaeontology of the area. The museum houses fossils of Pliocene (roughly 5-2.5 million years ago) shells and marine animals and Pleistocene and Holocene (roughly 1 million years ago to the present day) fossils of land vertebrates.
In the afternoon, we will take a trip along the banks of the river Arda to see the geological and environmental evolution of the area close-up. Here we will be able to see, in situ, fossils similar to those in the Cortesi museum.
