Arrival at the car park outside the village of Nadro by own means of transport.
Brief visit to the Nadro Museum where we will see plaster casts of various rock-art images. We then proceed along an old track improved for use as a supply route during World War One until we reach a series of reconstructed prehistoric buildings at the entrance to the Foppe di Nadro rock-art area.
Foppe di Nadro has carvings from the Copper Age (3,500-2,000 BC) and the Iron Age (900-16 BC). Particularly noteworthy are the large number of life-size portrayals of human footprints and a variety of water birds. There are also many images of warriors, granaries etc.
We will leave the Foppe di Nadro area, heading uphill to the Campanine rock-art zone. Campanine is best-known for its medieval rock-art – keys, soldiers, castles – but also has plentiful Iron Age imagery.
Continuing uphill we reach the Cimbergo castle which has both pre-Venetian and post-Venetian phases, the latter strengthening it against artillery which was becoming more widespread in use.
Descending the way we came until we reach the Foppe di Nadro area we will complete our circuit of the rock-art zone before returning to the car park for the journey home.
