To the summit of Montisola

We leave from Sale Marasino, which can be reached by train (www.trenord.it) or by private transport.

We take the ferry across Lago Iseo to Carzano (187 m asl) on the eastern side of Montisola. The first stop on our ascent is Novale (230 m asl), followed by Olzano (345 m asl) and Masse (400 m asl) where we see the church dedicated to San Rocco. The hard work of the climb will be well-rewarded by fine views over the lake and the rich woods of olive and chestnut that we pass through to reach Cure (460 m asl). Leaving the settlement of Cure we begin the final climb to the Sanctuary of the Maddona della Ceriola (600 m asl) following a path past small shrines related to the Via Crucis (it should take us about 2 hours to reach the summit).

We will have a picnic lunch near the Sanctuary – there is the possibility of buying a drink at the small bar attached to the church. We will then visit the XVI century church of the Madonna della Ceriola with its wooden statue of the Madonna, to which are attributed many miracles that are recalled by the many votive objects dating from 1800 onwards.

After having enjoyed the splendid views we take the path back to Cure, from where we descend through Siviano, Menzino and Sensole to reach Peschiera Maraglio, after about 2 hours of walking. In this small fishing village we will visit the XVIII century church of San Michele.

Our day ends with a longer ride on the ferry (17:55 departure) from Peschiera to Sensole, Tavernola Bergamasca, Siviano, Carzano and finally Sale Marasino (18:45 arrival).
